WELCOME

There are times in life when we face difficult and challenging periods, which may leave us feeling alone, isolated, confused, overwhelmed, stuck in our life, or lacking a sense of belonging. Counselling can offer support in a safe and confidential environment, allowing you to explore your feelings, concerns, and conflicts whilst helping you to achieve the growth and change that you wish for.

I believe that everyone has the capacity to create these changes and find meaning through their unique experience of life, and I value each person as an individual. I offer a warm, accepting, flexible, and creative approach that will always seek to support you with working at your own pace.

ABOUT

ABOUT ME

My name is Emily and I’d like to wish you a warm welcome to my website. I am a Humanistic Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, offering counselling in Brighton & Hove and Seaford.

I previously studied modern languages at university, and it was during this time that I became increasingly intrigued by how we communicate and relate to others as well as ourselves. I later became fascinated with the ways in which we interpret our life experiences . Through both my studies and experience, I discovered the transformative power of developing an emotional language and in developing this language, we begin to explore, make sense of and express our feelings in a healthy, progressive direction.

Over the last twelve years I have worked in the mental health field both in day services and residential settings, undertaking various support roles, facilitating groups/ workshops, and working within different models of recovery. I have worked with people who have experienced challenges, have faced adversity and have perhaps felt marginalised in some way. It is this work that has informed my practice enormously and continued to reaffirm the importance of creating a safe space to allow for an exchange of emotional language that so many of us crave, in order to cope with life's many problems. I also volunteer at The Clocktower Sanctuary, a charity close to my heart, that offers support to young homeless people in Brighton.

I am a qualified Humanistic Psychotherapeutic Counsellor having completed a Post-graduate Diploma at The University of Brighton. Throughout my training I worked at The Rock Clinic as a counsellor for two years. I currently work for a local counselling charity, which offers support for survivors of suicide. I am insured and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy.

Grounded in a person-centred approach as well as in existential concepts that underpin humanistic counselling theory, I aim to help you recognise your capacity for self-healing and growth through an open, honest and genuine therapeutic relationship. I will work with you to help you identify feelings and emotions, in whichever way you choose to express yourself. I invite clients to turn inwards and give a voice to an inner part of themselves that can otherwise remain hidden. I will support you in connecting with and finding meaning through your lived experiences. I believe everyone experiences the world differently and so my approach caters to your understanding of that very experience.

SERVICES

COUNSELLING

I embrace the concept that we can only ever really know ourselves through being in relation to others and our environment, and therefore the therapeutic relationship is integral to my work. This relationship can reveal and illuminate patterns that manifest both internally and in other relationships, and by paying attention to such dynamics I can support you to become more aware of yourself, your relationship to yourself, your relationship with others and the wider world.

Through my practice it is my intention to support you in feeling more empowered towards living a fulfilling, whole and meaningful life.

I have experience of working with a variety of issues such as: depression, anxiety, loss/bereavement, abuse, identity, relationships with food/eating, addictions, trauma, as well as other issues.
